The best thing to do in a situation like that is to ignore the outburst for what it is, you all seem intent on writing Yulan off as a Tumblr SJW, why don’t you just stick to your guns if you’re going to not actually sympathize with what she was trying to say.

I do sympathize with Yulan’s point. Yulan just happened to try to make the point in a stupid and counterproductive way that turned other sympathizers against the entire idea. You don’t get points for having your heart in the right place.

She did come off as aggressive. Reasonable people don’t take this as a challenge to live up to exactly what the other person thinks you’ll do, IE silencing and tone policing, unless they’re looking for a fight.

Like Venita said, the dramatic all lower-case “goodbye” was deleted and replaced with a “sorry if I worried people and said crazy things last night I was drunk” (Melyria had left for a few hours but has since rejoined). That has been turned into a picture showing how it hurts Melyria to be so trusting and a non-apology that takes no responsibility and only says “sorry if my affection made people uncomfortable.”

It’s the same manipulation over and over…

“I’m not stable so you need to humor me. How dare you not humor me, don’t you know it hurts me? Sure I was a stalker but only because I trust you so much! Yes, I tried to make you do things you didn’t want to do but it is because I like you so much. My life is really hard and if you call me out I will do something dramatic like threaten suicide. I can’t even imagine what this must be like for the victims. Talk about the opposite of closure.

First, I know that not everyone is looking or wanting an apology. I’m not going to whisper the people involved because they have me on ignore and that is a whole different issue all together, whispering people via alt to get around the ignore function. So if somebody wants an apology it is here…

You seem to be confusing an apology with an excuse and a justification. The former implies that you acknowledge wrongdoing; the latter two do not. 2-7% of North Americans suffer from social anxiety. They don’t pull crap like this and you don’t have to either.

You can’t help a condition (anxiety, drunkenness, etc) but it’s not a be-all-end-all for your actions. If you are drunk, don’t hop in a driver’s seat til you’re sober. If you tend to bully people, don’t hang out in settings that give you means (anonymity, etc) to bully people.

Take Rumze’s advice. Don’t look at what you can’t help, look at what you can help. Show people that you intend on changing your behavior. These types of apologies haven’t worked for you in the past. You have to realize your fault in this if you want to change the pattern. Your own actions are the only thing that you have control over (now).

I think you are confusing explaining with justification or making an excuse. Explaining why I did something, my reasons for it, and then saying repeatedly that my reasons are not making what I did okay does not make this a justification. I apologized, repeatedly, I said what I did was wrong, repeatedly.

Is not acknowledging why I did something, as well as being sorry, important parts of trying to fix things? Would an apology without any introspection or understanding ring hollow? I explained why I did what I did because I wanted my apology to mean something, not to be a simple “Yes, I’m sorry”.

So me saying “I’m messed up but that is no excuse for what I did” is taking responsiblity. It is saying that despite how messed up I am, I still did it and me being messed up is not a way to dodge it. You didn’t seem to read what I said, because what I said was, using your own examples “I’m a drunk but that is no excuse for me getting behind the wheel”. I said so in the second paragraph.

And I went on to say that I’ve gone to the extreme in trying to prevent what happened. I’ve basically distanced myself from my friends, to the point where I’m miserable, in order to prevent a repeat.

Did you even bother to read what I said or did you just make a whole bunch of assumptions?

Oh, sure, insult the people who are asking genuine questions. That’s worked so well for you in the past. You’re still not taking responsibility for your words, you’re claiming that caellya “obviously didn’t read” it right. It’s still an excuse. Being “messed up” doesn’t make an abhorrent act harder, it makes it easier, because you are less inhibited. You know what? People don’t want your explanations, or your justifications. At this point, all they want you to do is go away.

Our two events were apparently at the same time, in the same place. Moonblade was forming up for a meeting when she started to talk in /say. We were unsure if this was an attempt to RP with us, so we asked her IC. When we got no response, we figured it was an event and we relocated to another part of the temple.

Please, get your facts straight. I have the leader of that guild on Real ID.

Note: My test subject spread his wings and said “Ow! Ow! Ow!” the closer he got to my nose. Other test subjects included cat (who would not fit on arm) snake (who did not seem interested in test) and fish (who had no feet and thus kept flopping off the back of my hand and flailing about on the carpet) Upon reflection, I elected not to try this with the dog.

And, don’t you have to have an active guild to recruit active players? I don’t know anyone in Amiyna’s guild so I can’t warn her. I did warn Venita on Sabrina’s behalf.

My friend and I are arguing over the stupidest thing. I am trying to tell her that in the majority of Disney animated films, there is no mother figure. (or the mother figure is killed/evil) I have compiled a list of the major animated films from earliest to latest. I have not included live-action…

Now you mean maternal figures, right? I have to disagree in some regard. Many of the movies have maternal figures without them necessarily being mothers. Your argument seems a little “all over the place” because even if a mother is killed in the movie, it doesn’t ever seem to really lessen her presence. Examples:

Dumbo - Mother was killed, but there are many scenes in which Dumbo remembers her very fondly which may attribute to his calm demeanor.

101 Dalmations- This put the maternal and paternal figures on equal footing as a “wholesome Christian value” that children need both parents. (It doesn’t necessarily have to be shared by the public at large)

Jungle Book - No biological mother or father. Remember: Mowgli’s parents were killed by Shere Khan. However, Mowgli did get the maternal and paternal peerage by Baloo and Bagheera. While they weren’t the traditional male-to-female ratio, the two male characters managed to try their best to “raise” the boy.

Aristocats - Mother main character. This one kind of defeats your argument since the mother is the main character,

Rescuers - While the first one was about an orphaned girl, she was given to a good home at the end. In Rescuers Down Under, the boy had a mother and while she wasn’t the focal point of the story, she clearly had a loving relationship with her son.

Oliver and Company - This was a parody on a classic English novel, Oliver Twist. He was an orphan, but one can argue that Fagan (the man who brought boys in to teach them how to steal) was as close to a maternal figure as he could get. In the Disney version, the maternal figure rested on the little girl who adopted him.

Well I did say most. although I may point out that Dumbo’s mother wasn’t killed, she was imprisoned as a “mad elephant” for most of the movie and at the end, was redeemed.

And yes I did say that the Dalmations parents were focused on equally. I listed Aristocats as having the mother as the main character. That was one of the very few movies (Along with Princess and the Frog) where the mother was actually focused on, with the “father” only coming in at the end of the film. I want to go and watch that again now… I don’t really count both Rescuer movies, mainly because the mothers are absent and/or barely mentioned during the screen time.

I will concede on Oliver and Company. I was thinking more of the dog pack, but yeah Fagin was a pretty maternal character. And much more likeable in animated form, though there’s something adorable about the live action version. He does teach his boys to steal properly!

Until she hits rock bottom, she will continue to do whatever it takes to paint herself as the victim as well as doing whatever she can to discredit others.

Her supporters are idiots as well. The fact that no one is distancing themselves from Melyria while she uses personal details folks gave her in confidence is very telling.

When will folks realise that Melyria doesnt care about other people, and she will turn on you in due time. Its very much scorpion and the fox here folks, and melyra is the poison in the sting.

I know folks are tired of hearing this but I will say this. I am glad all this is on tumblr because mark my words Melyria. If I see her on an rp server in wildstar, I will bring this all to light and drive her off because she is toxic.

Because unlike her, I have nothing to hide and I actually am genuine and am myself. What you see is what you get.

And I remember everything.

And there is nothing more I despise than someone who says that they have had nasty stuff happen to them and then goes and does it to others. Im not talking just about the sexual harrassment.

Im talking about being picked on because you dont conform to society and then she does the same ingame and use lore to back her nastiness up. There is no compassion in Melyria and no shred of decency.

Id be lying if I said my opinion of Melryia has dropped because of the recent events. Its always been this low.

Sadly, there are two kinds of people in this world: those who watch drama happen and those who make it. (NOTE: drama, in this context is not necessarily meant to be negative)

Those who no longer wish to see the whole Melyria vs. the World stuff are those who have either had their fill of the Jerry Springer level drama and had nothing constructive to add or those have added to it but not in the most constructive of ways; your typical “don’t do that” and “stahp fiting gaise” personalities that dwell on the forums. After all, it is easy to be an internet hero by trying to take the moral high ground - even if it doesn’t actually exist.

The ones who want to perpetuate it, though, fall into similar categories: Those who actively participate and want to see a justified outcome and those who want to perpetuate it to play Devil’s Advocate. By now, I would assume many of these people understand the simple concept of right versus wrong and are choosing to ignore it because it no longer feeds into their taboo desire of watching the people they see day in and day out go at it like Roman gladiators. That is all they ever wanted and honestly, that does nothing to help those who have been victimized.

After having seen many of the conversations and screenshots, I could formulate an opinion, but sadly, I feel I am an anomaly; an outlier. Since many of the victims are acquaintances and aren’t dear friends, I personally feel it would be a mockery of what happened to them for me to jump on the bandwagon of “hate Melyria.” Do I think she is a scumbag for what she did? You bet your sweet ass I do. However, keep in perspective that many of the people who have been following this also fall into my category. We don’t want to turn their real problem into a debacle because we don’t know enough to charge forth with the crusade.

I feel awful for those who were victimized. I can also empathize with them on many levels. The community at large likely won’t band together in such a way because we feel like outliers, because we feel that we don’t merit enough standing with the victims to actively pursue the matter on their behalf. I digress, though, that we should bear in mind that this can happen to any one of us if it is allowed to continue.

There is a lot of negative emotion tied to this. I actually dont know the folks tied to this very well, and all I can do is offer my support for the most part.

Heck, Im not actively considering going back to wow at all actually.

But there is one way to stop this. And thats through word of mouth. It doesnt have to be in your face. But it has to become something that everyone knows. In effect, it has to become goldshire.

It has to follow her around and stop folks from interacting with her. This knowledge needs to be disseminated .

While we cannot make her sorry for what she has done, we can help stop any new people from facing the same thing again.

Even if Melyria goes underground and becomes someone else, she will slip up and fall into old patterns. No one can hide who they are for extended periods of time.

This is where knowledge of what she does is important to get out.

Community is the most important thing we have as rpers. And part of that community is communication.
It doesnt have to be in your face but it has to become something everyone knows.

It has to become goldshire, it has to be known by everyone. And we have to deny her new victims.

You dont have to actively stand up against her, but you can help by letting everyone you know about the toxin known as Melyria.

Melyria: A toxic entity encountered in rp communities. It preys on others by making them feel sorry for it and having them lower their defenses.
Other hallmarks of the toxic entity include passive aggressive behaviour, if you arent doing it my way you are doing it wrong and the inability to show empathy.

How, exactly, would you go about doing this, though? She’s running a recruitment drive right now so it’s safe to assume she’s pulling in new victims. It’s impractical to whisper everyone in Darnassus, not to mention makes one come off as a creepy stalker. It’s not advisable to go shouting in General, either, it opens you up to being targeted, and might lead to a ticket being filed against YOU for harassing HER.
